TVS motors have been struggling to come up with a new line of products for the ever demanding Indian market. Although the current line up is good, it does not strike the right chord in the hearts of the customers, who are continuously moving towards technologically better motorcycles, thus attributing to TVS's dwindling sales figures and their slip from the 3rd overall spot in the Indian market.
It is therefore very evident that certain measures need to be taken if the competition is to be kept at bay. And we think that TVS is working under the hood to make a strong come back. TVS Motor, India and BMW are in talks to create a technological alliance to develop a BMW-branded motorbike for the Indian market.
Speculation is also that BMW's Husqvarna sub brand may be used.
It will be a win-win situation for both the manufacturers, as BMW, who is relatively new to the Indian market where smaller capacity motorcycles are a key to success, may need assistance to understand the market needs better. And what better partner than TVS motor company who have been known to produce excellent products.
BMW plans to expand in the Indian market and compete with local rivals Hero MotoCorp Ltd. and Bajaj Auto Ltd. as well as Japan’s Yamaha Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co.
“We will share more details on the nature of the talks in due course,” Venu Srinivasan, chairman of Chennai, south India-based TVS said.
This alliance will also allow TVS to grab the technical know-how from BMW and make use of it in making their product portfolio stronger.
“A pact with BMW will change the fortunes of TVS,” said Deepak Jain, an auto analyst at Sharekhan Ltd. “TVS has been stuck with its products, and technology from BMW will help it become a major player in the bigger-motorcycle segment.”
This technological alliance will definitely help the buyers to get their hands on their dream brand at affordable prices.
