Suzuki’s 250
Recently Suzuki unveiled their newest offering the GW 250 at the CIMA Auto Show in China. The GW 250 is already popularly being called as the “Baby B-King”. With the launch of GW 250 Suzuki is all set to take on the 250cc segment which is already spiced up with the NINJA 250R , Hyosung GT 250R and the new contender from Honda the CBR250.
Suzuki has officially confirmed on their Facebook page that they will be bringing the GW 250 to India soon. This would increase the options in the 250cc segment for the potential buyers and that too a different offering altogether, a 250cc naked bike, thus giving the naked bike fans an opportunity to own a 250cc. The speculation is that the bike will be priced between 1.6-1.8 lacs, if priced at this price range Suzuki could actually give other 250cc manufacturers in India a run for their money. The Suzuki GW 250 is expected to go on sale at around December 2011 in the foreign market and the production though Indian launch date remains unannounced. Let’s check out other details of the bike.
The bike looks big and will surely give a big bike feel to the rider. The turn indicators have been put on the tank extensions. The headlamp is quite similar to the one on B-King. The three spoke alloys are massive gives a sense of cadence to the overall styling. The wide 110/30x17 front tyre along with the front fender seems to be protruding out of the bike and some may find it weird whereas the 140/70x17 rear provides good looks to the rear of the bike and will provide extra grip as well.
Suzuki has provided a generous, informative, neat and one of the best looking dash with the bike. The console sports a gear indicator with the tachometer in the middle redlining at 11000 rpm. On the right is the speedometer display, housing the fuel gauge along with the odometer and two trip meters. On the left are all the tell tale lights. And the turn indicator lights on either side of the tacho. The speedo and tacho have an amber backlit display which looks sporty and neat at the same time. The bike houses a good looking clip-on handlebar with the ignition key slot on the left hand of the clip-on which looks stylish and different from the competition.
The bike’s rear is satisfactory in looks though it could have been a good looking one but the ugly looking twin exhaust as well as the grab rail spoiled the show for us. Though different people may have different opinion as tastes differ from people to people.
Suzuki has developed the engine of GW 250 keeping in the competition in mind. The GW 250 houses a 4 stroke, liquid cooled, 8 valve, fuel injected, inline twin cylinder 250cc producing maximum power of 26.06 Ps@8500rpm and maximum torque of 23.7 Nm@7000 rpm. These figures indicate GW 250 will be a true street fighter with a meaty low and mid range.
All this information has made us restless as we want to get our hands on this beast as soon as possible for a full fledged road test. India’s 250cc segment will surely be spicing up in the near future with entry of Suzuki. We will keep you updated of any news regarding it. Until then stay tuned for the comprehensive review of the Suzuki GW 250.
