The wait is over for all the pulsar maniacs as bajaj today unveiled the new Pulsar 200 NS where ‘NS’ stands for naked sports, with triple spark plug technology. The expectation was for a upgrade for the whole pulsar line up but never the less a reason for people to celebrate. After ten years of domination in the performance bike segment when people started getting bored of the old grown design and technology, Bajaj pulled up their socks and came up with an all new design and not only a new engine but a whole new technology. The new generation pulsar is all set to re-define technology.
Coming to the part what everyone is really interested in, the Pulsar 200 NS is powered by an all new single cylinder Liquid cooled, SOHC, 4- Valve 200 cc motor which produces 23.52 Ps of peak power at 9500 rpm and peak torque of 18.3 Nm at 8000 rpm, phew, the specs make you sweat. The stroke of the bike has been made shorter and the bore larger thus giving the bike a revy character. The 4-valve triple spark engine which is controlled by an advanced Electronic Control Unit coupled with a 33mm UCD carb and a kerb weight of 145 kg, 7 kg less than Pulsar 220, for a smashing performance and power to weight ratio. To deliver that amount of power, Bajaj has for the first time given 6-speed gears, thus making the Pulsar 200 NS, the first Pulsar to feature a 6-speed transmission. Bajaj has finally sought out the chassis of the Pulsar which was one of the major causes of the not so good handling and un-inspiring track performance of the older pulsars. The new pulsar’s chassis comprises a pressed steel perimeter frame and a rectangular tube section swing arm delivering over three time lateral stiffness of a Pulsar 220 frame. This has resulted in better high speed stability and handling. The centrally located muffler position which is hard for a person to spot and another first in the pulsar series, the Nitrox Mono Suspension further improve the ride and handling of the bike due to low and center oriented Center of gravity position. Even the weight distribution is almost 50:50 with 72/73 front/rear distribution. The Pulsar 200 NS features even fatter tires, 100/80 – 17 fronts and 130/70 – 17 rear both from Euro grip. Braking is handled by larger 280mm front and 230mm rear petal type disc brakes.
Scraping knee is finally possible in the new Pulsar with the sought out chassis.
The meatier tank now allows better knee recess
With the new engine technology and the hair raising specs, the new Pulsar 200 NS should be capable of an unmatched performance in its segment. Bajaj claims that the 200 zips pasts 60kmph mark(0-60) in 3.61 secs and 0-100 in 9.83 secs and its capable of an ambitious 136kmph of top speed and comes to a halt from 60kmph(60-0) within 16.33 meters. These figures make you drool though the real world performance is yet to be gauged.
The new Pulsar’s naked street fighter design oozes raw aggression and is a style statement. As soon as you look at it, you just get desperate to ride it. The Sporty and informative speedo console which has Glowing Bajaj’s Logo gives a classy touch to the bike. The tacho also gets a new design which redlines at 10,000 rpm and has a gear shift indicator on top of it. The triple tree clip-ons looks much more classy and of better quality than the existing pulsars and it seems that they are powder coated though can’t be sure. The backlit switch gear is retained as a signature. The List of all the facts is given below:
- All new naked design & Styling
- ‘NS’ stands for naked sports
- New Alloy Design
- Exhaust beneath the engine
- New Speedometer including gearshift indicator, Bajaj glow logo, and new tacho design
- New lighter and stronger chassis
- Fatter front and rear tires (100/80 – 17 front & 130/70 – 17 rear)
- 280mm front and 230mm rear Discs
- Bybre Calipers
- Available in Yellow,Red,black and blue.
- Powered by Liquid cooled, 4-valve, triple spark 200 cc Engine
- larger 33mm UCD carb and 6-speed transmission
- New Triple Spark Technology
- Front Suspension: 37mm Telescopic Front fork with anti-friction Bush
- Rear Suspension: Unique gas charged Nitrox Monoshock suspension
Well the list never seems to end, host of new features and technology added into it, kudos to Bajaj’s R&D. Another point which we were saving up for the last is the Fuel consumption of the bike. Bajaj claims an unbelievable 58kmpl due to the triple spark technology. In real life conditions though expect anything between 45-48kmpl overall which is excellent for a 4-valve 200cc with such a performance output, it’s a revolution in itself.
And the best news is yet to come, Bajaj has also announced that the Pulsar 200 NS will be priced very competitively keeping it under 1 lakh probably around 90,000 INR in fact we have come across an ex-showroom price of Rs. 82,536 in Pune, though this is not confirmed but still a reason for people to celebrate…wait, where did you guys go..Oh, you are already on your way to book it, well would do the same as it is the most value you can squeeze out of this amount. The delivery of the Pulsar 200 NS will start from April. As usual Bajaj has hit the jackpot and so have the potential customers. 2012-2013 is gonna be fiery with Bajaj taking on the world. Stay tuned for the First ride report as soon as we get our hands on it. Until then...
