We get chatty with none other than EIMOR customs, the men who did the exquisite paint job on the award winning Harley Davidson Softail at the India Bike Week for Best Custom Harley Davidson. The Total Inside story along with lots of Pictures.
EIMOR Customs is the upcoming customization company which deals in Customization and custom painting of Motorcycles & Helmets, Cars, Guitars, etc. They are based out of Hyderabad and their recent work was on the award winning Harley Davidson Softail at India Bike Week. Read their replies below when we bombarded them with our questions.
Q1. How did Eimor Customs Originate?
Bikes and art — common passions brought us together to make the better of our interests and talent, giving birth to EIMOR Customs. Expanding into East India Motorcycle Revolution, EIMOR Customs offers customized and conceptualized artwork on bikes and helmets and other mechanical modifications, too. It was born out of necessity. We are IT Guys from Hyderabad, and we love motorcycling. We always wanted a life which is bigger than a cubicle in office. It started when we wanted to customize our own motorcycles with unique graphics, like we see for high end custom motorcycles, available in UK and U.S. We found that there is no one in Hyderabad and a handful of people in India, who understand what, custom painting is.
We thought of learning it ourselves, as both I (Saikat) and my friend Mrutyunjaya (MJ) have experiences in Fine Arts since childhood. It all started with a necessity to transform our own bikes using exquisite painting on them, to something unique and meaningful. We started painting helmets, buckets, metal containers, etc. to understand how it really works, before applying it on our motorcycles. After we did the paint job, people liked our works. People started clicking pictures when we rode our motorcycles and they took our contacts. It just happened to us!!
Q2. Who are your Core Team Members?
Mrutyunjaya Dash(MJ) and Saikat Basu ~ Designing, Sketching, Airbrushing, Painting, Photography, Modifications, Writing & Blogging
Md. Makeen : Fabrication
What Saikat says about MJ:
A techie by compulsion and an artist by passion. He handles the painting department, which actually gives life to a design. Apart from painting, an excellent cook, an amazing singer, a perfectionist and a great human being.
A techie by compulsion and an artist by passion. He handles the painting department, which actually gives life to a design. Apart from painting, an excellent cook, an amazing singer, a perfectionist and a great human being.
What MJ says about Saikat:
A kid inside, but tough and full of attitude from outside, he is a rare combination. An extremely talented guitarist, an excellent cook, and is amazing with words. Has good knowledge of motorcycles and its evolution – but by far what I like most about him is his honesty and his likeness to do quality work, no matter what the work is.
What we both say about Makeen:
Simply an artist with hammer anvil and torch. His hunger for innovating, learning and incorporating new ideas is highly commendable.
Q3: How many projects do u work on usually in a span of 1 month and what is the Price range if someone has to get a custom Paint Job from You.
On an average we work on about 6 to 8 projects in a month. It takes about two weeks for theme-based paintings. The idea is conceptualized colour is scraped off the bike and elaborate art work is produced. You can either give us the required part dismantled or leave your bike with us. For bikes it can cost anywhere from Rs 18,000-30,000, designs on helmets range from Rs 3,500- 5,000. Time varies from 4 days to 1 week for helmets, and 10 days to 3 weeks for Bikes, depending on complexity. Customizing Motorcycle takes a minimum of 1 month and can go up to 4 months per motorcycle (depending on complexity). The cost directly depends on the works being done.
Q4: Do you do anything apart from paint Job also?
Eimor started with Custom Painting as an offering. However, we have scaled up this offering to full-fledged bike modifications and customization of motorcycles. We design the look and feel of the motorcycles, and determine what it should and should not have. We have fabricators who churn metal Sheets and pipes and fabricate custom Motorcycle body parts as per our designs and specifications. We take care of procurement of parts and accessories from within or out of India to fulfill a build. Each motorcycle is different and each one has its own character, sound, feel, looks and impression. For making sure we deliver quality, we never delegate work. We sit and make sure the body parts are as per design, We Paint our motorcycle ourselves, as we don’t want to compromise on quality of artwork and finish.
Unlike other custom Motorcycle brands, offer two offerings: Custom Fabrication and Custom Painting.
A custom painting is a less expensive, yet powerful customization area, where in we change the paint and the graphics as per user’s idea. In Custom Fabrication, we change the body elements, posture, accessories etc. and make it look totally different. Custom Fabrication includes a custom paint job as well. Our target customers are those, who want to tweak around their old motorcycles and give them a niche look, those who have some unique taste and factory made stuff don’t satisfy them, people who want not just machines, but head turners, and crowd pullers.
Q5: When Not Working on Bikes, what occupies your attention? (Other interests or hobbies apart from Customization).
Mrutyunjaya is an amazing artist. His first love is water colors He has been painting since when he was a child. He does a lot of paintings in water colors acrylic and oil, many have which have been put up in exhibitions and sold. He is a good singer, an excellent cook, a good photographer, and one amazing rider.
When I (Saikat) am not working on bikes I am a musician. I play guitars and bass since schooldays. I play for a local band in Hyderabad. On weekends we jam together and once or twice in a month we perform in pubs and places. Cooking, creative writing (songs, poems and articles) and pencil sketching are my other hobbies.
MJ and I do loads of long rides together.
Q6: What are you Future Plans?
First of all, we just want to do amazing work, and bring more smiles. We are not here for churning volumes of motorcycles which are stereotype, rather we are here to enjoy making Bikes, where none of them look the same. We have plans to grow the brand as a niche custom motorcycle builder in country. We want to be known as “THE BEST PLACE” for custom paint job. We would like to take this to a higher level, with bikers/professionals from worldwide appreciating custom works.
Q7: And last but not the least what do have to say about the growing passion of bikers for custom Bikes in India?
People receive it with mixed feelings. On one hand, they are overwhelmed to see such exquisite paint jobs, and the way the motorcycles are transformed, On the other hand, people do not know the amount of hard work which goes into such paint jobs and customization works. People are apprehensive about the cost factors associated with painting/customization. People do not understand the complicated process of customization/custom painting and relate a factory made motorcycle with a handcrafted motorcycle like ours. They have to understand that a Canvas is not as costly as the painting itself. For us a motorcycle is a canvas, and it leaves us with vast possibilities of what can be done. But time is changing, and is changing fast.
Slowly, we are seeing a section of audience who want quality of artwork and are very choosy on what the need and such collectors value the kind of work we do. Overall, I would say that the journey has been very positive so far and we are looking forward to a better and brighter future.
